A Cobb tank is a package-type custom-built storage system that provides automatic bulk handling of liquid product. The standard unit, available in a horizontal or vertical design, is constructed for indoor or outdoor use. Each unit is completely self-contained and consists of an epoxy lined steel tank and attached, fully-accessible equipment compartment. The unit comes prewired and equipped with pumps, motors, heaters, air sterilization unit and all necessary valves, fill line opening, house line opening, and controls based on specific product and customer facility requirements.
Each standard Cobb tank is constructed from durable and long-lasting mild-grade carbon steel. The interior of the tank is sandblasted, sanitized and lined with a two-part epoxy FDA/USDA approved food-grade coating. The exterior of the tank is sandblasted, layered with temperature-regulating insulation and covered with a weatherproof aluminum jacket. The interior of the equipment compartment and entire exterior of the unit is then epoxy primed and finished with an enamel coating.
Typically servicing the food industry, Cobb tanks are constructed to be adaptable to a variety of bulk liquid products. Units are designed to handle either food-grade liquids (examples include various grades of liquid corn sweeteners, potassium lactate, edible oils, spring water, etc.) or non-food grade liquids (such as resin).
Product type is an important factor is determining equipment requirements and any possible necessary modifications to the standard storage tank design. We at the G.W. Cobb Co. have over 60 years of experience handling different liquid products and continue to meet the challenge of successfully handling the newest products constantly being introduced into the marketplace.
All critical operating equipment is housed in the fully enclosed equipment compartment. The enclosed design not only protects the operating equipment but also facilitates easier routine maintenance, sanitation and accessibility. Each compartment is designed to accommodate the following equipment based on product and/or customer voltage specifications, as applicable: single or multiple house distribution pumps, pre-wired and mounted electrical panels, heating system with automatic temperature control, product sight gauge indicator, fill line, house line, strainers, filter and sanitary type inswung manhole.
A "turn-key" Cobb system is a complete package system. This includes everything as required by the customer to handle bulk liquid product including, but not limited to: engineering and design of the storage tank, installation of the handling system at the customers facility (with the exception of external electrical work) and start-up of the system.
The tank will arrive at the customers location, where our team will set, anchor and grout the tank in place. Next, our team of technicians will furnish and install all necessary piping, metering and batching equipment, as required to connect to either single or multiple use point(s). Finally, our technicians will complete the initial sanitation of the tank, aide in receiving and/or provide instructions on receiving product loads, calibrate meters and provide training on maintaining the system.

Whether you are looking to introduce a bulk handling system to your operation, upgrade to a larger system, or add a new system, a Cobb tank will provide the best return on your investment. The G.W.
